BAC Group is looking to employ an individual with experience as a Sheet Metal Mechanic. The successful candidate will be able to supervise and coordinate the activities of other sheet metal workers, develop solutions to a variety of moderate complexity problems and provide training for less experienced staff. Must also be able to complete tasks assigned by the supervisor in accordance with published schedules. Work is performed in both a shop setting and outside on various types of jobs/construction sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Construct, install, alter and repair sheet metal products and equipment in accordance with blueprints, drawings, and work orders (i.e. ducts and hoods for heating, air conditioning and exhaust systems).
  • Determine equipment, supplies and materials needed to accomplish jobs.
  • Set-up and operate equipment such as power saws, drill presses, hand and power shears, pan and box brakes, lock formers, cleat benders and rollers to cut, punch, thread and form sheet metal.
  • Assemble ducts, hoods and other sheet metal products, solder and bolt connections, apply insulation as required, inspect assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications.
  • Perform operational checks of ducts and other sheet metal installations and take necessary corrective action which includes maintenance and repair.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition and perform routine maintenance on fabrication equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certified Sheet Metal Mechanic with a minimum of 5 years post certification experience.
  • Must have graduated from a certified sheet metal apprenticeship program.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the HVAC Trade.
  • Familiar with HVAC Duct Construction Standards (SMACNA).
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience using specialized equipment such as Kool Duct Machines and Plasma Cutters.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal materials, techniques, and fabrication methods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and/or ability to acquire.
  • Experience in the layout, fabrication and installation of sheet metal parts, and assemblies.
  • Experience in the fabrication of air conditioning ductwork.
  • The ability to make field changes as conditions dictate.
  • The ability to generate field and fabrication drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to tack welding, light brazing and metal soldering various metals and alloys used in sheet metal fabrication.
  • The ability to record and maintain as-built drawings of installed systems.
