Position: Cell Biologist, Oncology

Role: Research Scientist 2/Senior Research Scientist depending on experience

Role Summary: New Path Molecular is a spin-out from the group of Prof Steve Ley at the University of Cambridge. We are looking for an in-vivo biologist to join our drug discovery team in Cambridge, working as part of our research into phosphatidylserine binding protein drug conjugates as a pan-tumour approach for the treatment of cancer. We’re looking for someone who has a passion for research and drug discovery and can offer the right person a challenging role in a dynamic small company at the forefront of innovation and the chance to work with world-leading scientists through our collaborations with industry and academia.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Execute experimental work in the laboratory to progress projects according to agreed work plans.
2. Liaise with the CTO to progress projects effectively.
3. Maintain accurate records of experimental work.
4. Assist with production of reports and presentations.
5. Report to collaborators verbally in person or by telephone or video conference.
6. Assist in the safe running of the laboratory.
7. Assist with the efficient running of the research laboratory including ordering, management, storage and disposal of chemicals and consumables.
8. Continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism.
9. Translate knowledge of advances in the subject areas into research activity.

Person Profile:

Education & Qualifications: The candidate must have a BSc Hons in biology and a PhD (or equivalent industrial research experience).

Specialist Knowledge & Skills: The role holder would possess some research experience, either academic or industrial, with sufficient breadth/depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within an established research programme including experience in:

1. Cancer biology
2. Assay development
3. Cell culture
4. Running in-vitro cell-based assays to profile compounds

Experience in the following would be an advantage but not essential:

1. Flow cytometry
2. Confocal microscopy
3. Mode of action studies
4. In-vivo animal models and study design
5. Basic histopathology and IHC
6. Project management of external resource

Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Self-motivation, team player and strong communication skills.

Working Pattern: Monday – Friday

Hours of Work: Full-time (although candidates wishing to work part-time will also be considered)

Length of Appointment: Permanent

Probation Period: 3 months

Annual Leave: 20 days plus public holidays
