Babraham Research Campus Ltd (BRCL) is the company that manages and develops the Babraham Research Campus, supporting and promoting the regional and UK bioscience ecosystem.
We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Maintenance Engineer to be responsible for providing reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM), diagnosing and resolving issues, installation, testing and commissioning to a high standard, with a focus on energy efficiency and system optimisation. Experience working with boilers, chillers, heat pumps, medical gas systems and BMS systems would be advantageous.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate and diagnose issues and carry out planned and preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance (RM), condition maintenance (CM), statutory inspections and non-destructive testing on HVAC plant and systems, including air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), ventilation systems, chilled water systems and heating systems.
- Optimise system performance and energy efficiency through data analysis, flow rate adjustments, and operational improvements.
- Review and interpret BMS data to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
- Commission or re-commission plant and equipment as required.
- Record time and outcomes on the CAFM system.
- Responsible for other types of building services maintenance, including building fabric.
- Ensure that all repairs and installations are completed to suitable standards in line with industrial standards.
- Complete suitable risk assessments and method statements prior to undertaking any work and document in full to ensure safe working practice.
- Participate in an emergency call-out service on a rotor basis.
- Liaise with the BRCL Helpdesk and other contractors to deliver maintenance across the BRC estate to a suitable standard in accordance with the maintenance schedules.
- Where required supervise, coordinate and manage specialist sub-contractors for all maintenance provisions including PPM, RM and CM.
- Supervise where required safe systems of work, ensuring they are implemented and plant, machinery, services or equipment is suitably isolated.
- Ensure the building operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals are updated to reflect changes to building assets.
- Plan, supervise and co-ordinate all works to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all building users and ensure there is no impact on the environment.

Person Specification:
Education & Qualifications:
- Apprenticeship (or equivalent) formal training in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- City & Guilds Level 3 technical certificate in HVAC or other building services engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency regulations and practices (e.g., TM44, CIBSE guides).
- Good understanding of Health and Safety (isolations, permit to work, risk assessments, method statements).
Experience:
- Experience of fault finding and maintenance of HVAC systems and associated plant.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems including AHUs, FCUs, pumps, valves, chillers, and boilers.
- Familiarity with water flow balancing and system optimisation techniques.
- Ability to analyse metering and energy usage data.
- Experience of working in occupied (ideally laboratory) facilities.
- Experience of working with building management systems (BMS).
- Experience undertaking maintenance in accordance with SFG20.
- Experience of facilities management software, in particular Concept Evolution.
- Experience of building management systems, in particular Trend control systems.
