Overview

Research Assistant (Signalling) – Babraham Institute, Cambridge (full‑time on site). The Samant Lab studies fundamental biology of ageing, focusing on loss of proteostasis and cellular senescence in human tissues.

Responsibilities

  • Isolate and culture primary human cells derived from patient lung tissues.
  • Differentiate cells into 2D and 3D tissue‑like structures, including organoids and air‑liquid interfaces.
  • Perform functional assays to assess proteostasis, senescence, and ageing‑related dysfunction in these structures.
  • Coordinate with the local hospital tissue bank to obtain patient material and manage time‑sensitive sample processing.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in biological sciences, with basic molecular and cell‑biology experience.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques.
  • Excellent organisational skills and capacity to coordinate with external partners.

Training & Development

Hands‑on training will be provided in isolation/culture of primary cells and differentiation into tissue‑like structures. Opportunities to develop skills in CRISPR editing and super‑resolution microscopy, aligned with your career goals.

Terms of Appointment

Limited‑term appointment for approximately 1.5 years. Funding is expected to support the post for this duration.
