Location: Endeavour House, 8 Russell Road, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2BX

Salary: £27,694 - £31,022 per annum (pro rata)

Hours: Full Time, 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed Term Contract or Secondment opportunity for 9 months to cover Maternity Leave

About The Role

First point of contact for people who approach the council for housing help. Assess their situation, give basic housing advice and ensure each case is passed to the appropriate officer. Handle financial tasks linked to homelessness, including making agreed payments; keep accurate records, update the homelessness system and maintain a good understanding of housing law, welfare benefits and the local private rented market. Work closely with colleagues across the council and with external partners such as social care, probation and housing providers. May be asked to support the council’s emergency response arrangements when required.

Good understanding of housing and welfare issues. Strong problem‑solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people. Can manage a busy and varied workload, work independently and respond calmly to challenging situations. Demonstrates fairness, empathy and professionalism; maintains accurate records and works well with colleagues and partners to deliver a high‑quality service.
