Overview
In this role you will help ensure the reliability of Canada’s critical defence assets by leading electrical engineering work for submarine and waterfront systems. You will collaborate with the Marine Systems – Electrical team to deliver technical outcomes, address complex submarine electrical challenges, and provide mentorship. You’ll navigate shipyard execution, risk evaluation, and policy/standards governance to support secure, capable platforms. Responsibilities
- Report to the Marine Systems – Electrical Team Lead and contribute to technical deliverables
- Prepare and approve deviations and waivers for submarine electrical equipment
- Draft, review, and approve repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities
- Draft, review, and approve electrical engineering policies, procedures and internal standards
- Provide mentoring and professional oversight for a team of engineers and technologists
- Assess, document, and communicate risks for submarine engineering systems to internal and external customers
- Be responsive to Project Managers for dynamic program delivery in a shipyard waterfront environment
- Authorize and evaluate Test Forms as part of Joint Test Group on behalf of Engineering
- Act as the System Group Coordinator and System Lead for complex fault diagnosis and system operations
- Identify risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities
- Conduct other duties as necessary or reasonably assigned
Key requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, licensed as a Professional Engineer in Canada
- 8+ years electrical engineering experience (naval industry a plus)
- 3+ years submarine-specific experience (asset)
- Experience in design/maintenance of platform electrical systems (power, distribution, control/instrumentation, motors, generators, propulsion)
- Experience in design/maintenance of combat electrical systems (radar, sonar, communications)
- Experience providing professional oversight and mentorship within a technical team
- Superior verbal and written communication, including formal reports and presentations
- Eligibility for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR clearance
