Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical testing and verification for Victoria Class Submarine programs, ensuring tests align with schedules, standards, and governance. You will work within the Joint Test Groups to deliver safe, reliable, and verifiable outcomes, partnering with cross-functional teams in a safety-critical shipyard context. You drive test documentation, risk management, and continuous improvement to support timely project delivery and mission-critical assets. This is a strategic technical leadership role with a focus on submarine systems and complex engineering verification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of project schedules and ensure JTG taskings meet milestones and SLAs
  • Assess work packages, emergent work, and engineering changes to define testing and verification requirements for VCS systems
  • Lead the review and approval of test and commissioning procedures ensuring alignment with specifications and governance
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standards and best practices for submarine testing and commissioning
  • Monitor and track defects, coordinating retesting to demonstrate resolution and operability
  • Coordinate and lead meetings of the Mechanical and Naval Architect JTG to ensure available test documentation supports the schedule
  • Be responsive to the JTG Chairman for dynamic program delivery in a shipyard environment
  • Identify, assess, and escalate risks and opportunities during testing and maintenance to support decision making and improvement

Key requirements

  • Post-secondary education or apprenticeship in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)
  • Professional registration as P.Eng, AScT or C.E.T. with the provincial association or eligibility to complete within 12 months
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant technical experience including 5+ years in submarine engineering, sustainment, or construction
  • 5+ years experience reviewing and interpreting complex technical documentation
  • 5+ years experience with requirement verification and validation activities
  • Experience in reactivation of ship or submarine following refit or major maintenance
  • Expert knowledge of marine systems including mechanical, hydraulic, propulsion, piping, safety and related systems
  • Eligibility for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
  • Ability to operate safely in a safety-critical shipyard environment (climbing ladders, scaffolding, proximity to water, heavy equipment)
