Overview

As Principal Combat Systems Technologist at Babcock Canada, you will lead the Combat Systems sustainment portfolio and shape product ownership across lifecycles. You will collaborate with engineering, program, and customer teams to deliver technically sound solutions on schedule and within quality targets. The role focuses on governance, risk management, and continuous improvement to sustain critical defence capabilities. Responsibilities

  • Provide technologist-level leadership, governance, and technical direction across the Combat Systems sustainment portfolio
  • Establish and grow Combat Systems product ownership capability, including lifecycle support, baseline management, and modernization
  • Coordinate technologist activities supporting ECS Rack Build, Field Service, SSF, and Communications Modernization
  • Collaborate with engineering, program, and customer teams to deliver solutions meeting quality, schedule, and business objectives
  • Identify and manage technical risks while ensuring integrity of Combat Systems products and data
  • Mentor and develop technologists to strengthen capability and delivery
  • Drive continuous improvement of Combat Systems processes, standards, tools, and methods
  • Support physical product activities through development/maintenance of Combat Systems baselines (ECS Rack and SSF)
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, translating technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Support development, maintenance, and improvement of Combat Systems standards, processes, methods, and tools

Key requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma in relevant engineering technology
  • AScT or CET registration in BC, or eligibility to obtain within 12 months
  • 12+ years of experience with complex technical systems in defence, marine, industrial, or similar regulated environments
  • 5+ years in integration, sustainment, or modernization of communications or combat systems
  • 5+ years of leadership experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex solutions
  • Extensive lifecycle experience: requirements, design support, integration, verification, validation, sustainment, modernization
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership, governance, and risk management; stakeholder engagement and decision influence
  • Experience with 19-inch rack equipment builds is an asset
  • Familiarity with IPC J-STD-001 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards is an asset
  • Eligibility for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR clearance
