What you\’ll be doing:

  • Acting as an engineering (Mechanical and Structural) technical query focal point and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for BAE Systems embedded in the customer site (Abbey Wood)
  • To provide specialist knowledge in responding to engineering queries raised by the MOD customer or Submarine Enterprise partners relating to the design, safety, maintenance and operation of the equipment and systems installed in, In-Service Submarine platforms
  • Providing technical Authoritative Advice, in accordance with the extant governance processes, for equipment in response to engineering queries raised by the MOD Design Authority and enterprise partners
  • Leading/attending customer support meetings and reporting into BAE Systems any issues and programme changes
  • Acting as an integrator between the MoD customer and the BAE business (Barrow shipyard, MoD naval bases and Filton offices)
  • Provide support across the In-Service Engineering functional areas, including Safety, Design Change, Training and Learning from Experience (LfE)

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience working alongside Nuclear Submarines and/or in a Technical Support role – Astute, Vanguard and Trafalgar Class Submarines
  • Proven ability to translate and present technical information in a clear and concise manner to range of different stakeholders
  • Proficient use MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)

Desirable:

  • Degree in Engineering or compatible field (Physics, Mathematics)
  • Time served in Royal Navy Submarine Service
  • Familiarisation within maritime defence sector or industry partners
  • People management skills

The Technical Support & Authoritative Advice Team:

You will be joining a growing team of eight, tasked with working on the Design Authority Technical Services (DATS) contract. The team is due to grow in the next few years, providing technical support and solutions to a range of different stakeholders, such as the Design Change/Safety and Environmental teams. This team also assists with technical defects queries and help support continuous improvement and feeding this back to the wider business. We support the Ship System through to secondary propulsion, naval architecture and the electrical systems on board. Joining this teams allows the successful candidate an opportunity to interface with key suppliers and stakeholders as well as on the In-service Submarine with scope to make an impact to the build-line support. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
