The role

As a Engineering Design Manager, you’ll lead the delivery of complex engineering design solutions that underpin critical defence and infrastructure programmes. Working within Facilities Engineering, you’ll act as a technical authority and trusted advisor, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across both nuclear and non-nuclear environments.

Day-to-day, you’ll have a unique opportunity to influence major engineering projects from concept through to completion, working in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, drive performance, and build capability, accelerating your leadership career while contributing to projects that protect national security and support vital public infrastructure.

  • Leading the technical delivery of engineering design projects from concept through to handover
  • Managing design scope, resources, risks, and delivery to meet quality, time, and budget requirements
  • Acting as the technical authority and primary point of contact for design-related activities
  • Coordinating internal and external stakeholders to deliver complex design solutions
  • Ensuring designs meet safety, regulatory, and operational requirements throughout the lifecycle

This role is full time, 35 hours per week providing hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days in the office/onsite and the remainder working from home.

Essential experience of the Engineering Design Manager

  • Strong technical background within engineering, construction, or infrastructure environments
  • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with a proactive approach
  • Proven experience managing the design lifecycle and solving complex engineering challenges
  • Understanding of design and safety requirements within regulated or safety-critical industries

Qualifications for the Engineering Design Manager

  • Degree in a STEM subject or equivalent experience
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards professional registration
  • Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution - Desirable

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
