Build the future of critical national infrastructure. Shape engineering decisions that keep the United Kingdom's naval operations safe, compliant and ready for the future.
At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer at our HMNB Clyde Faslane site.
The role:
As a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll play a pivotal role within the Safe to Operate team, helping to ensure that critical infrastructure remains safe, compliant and capable of supporting operational requirements. This is far more than a traditional engineering role. You'll combine technical expertise, engineering assurance and infrastructure compliance responsibilities while providing specialist guidance across a strategically important defence environment.
Day-to-day you'll be required to:
- Conduct inspections of civil, structural and building assets across the site.
- Review engineering compliance, infrastructure risks and asset performance to support safe operations.
- Provide technical advice and recommendations to infrastructure, maintenance and project teams.
- Assess and approve engineering designs, specifications and technical solutions submitted by internal and third-party organisations.
- Lead technical governance activities and act as a subject matter expert for civil, structural and building engineering matters.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and provides hybrid working arrangements, with approximately one day per week on site for surveys and inspections.
Essential experience:
- Significant experience within civil, structural or building engineering environments.
- Experience carrying out infrastructure inspections, asset assessments or engineering compliance activities.
- Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs, specifications or technical solutions.
- Strong knowledge of engineering standards, compliance requirements and risk management processes.
- Experience providing technical leadership and engaging with stakeholders within complex operational environments.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
What we offer:
- Generous holiday allowance.
- Matched contribution pension scheme, with life assurance.
- Access to a Digital GP, annual health check, and nutritional consultations through Aviva DigiCare.
- Employee shopping savings portal.
- Payment of Professional Fees.
- Reservists in the armed forces receive 10-days special paid leave.
- Holiday Trading allows UK Babcock employees to buy additional leave or to sell up to one working week of annual leave from their annual entitlement.
- ‘Be Kind Day’ enables employees to take one working day's paid leave a year to undertake volunteering work with their chosen organisation or registered charity.
