The Role

As an Occupational Health and Hygiene Lead, you will step into a role that sits at the heart of our mission. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver a proactive occupational health, hygiene, and wellbeing strategy that protects our people and strengthens our workplace culture across Mission Systems. Your work will directly influence the environments our teams operate in - supporting resilience, empowering managers, and ensuring our people feel at their best. Day-to-day, you will be required to:

  • Lead and coordinate our occupational health surveillance programme to ensure full compliance.
  • Manage our external occupational health provider to maintain efficient, quality service delivery.
  • Act as the primary contact for escalations and issues relating to health surveillance.
  • Provide expert advice on workplace health, wellbeing, and reasonable adjustments to managers and employees.
  • Investigate or support investigations into occupational health-related events and findings.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home.

Essential experience of the Occupational Health and Hygiene Lead:

  • Proven experience leading and managing occupational health and hygiene functions.
  • Background delivering effective occupational health services.
  • Strong ability to interpret health, hygiene, and wellbeing data to produce actionable insights.
  • Experience managing external contracts relating to occupational health, hygiene, and wellbeing services.
  • Demonstrable success developing and implementing wellbeing strategies and initiatives.

Qualifications for the Occupational Health and Hygiene Lead:

Essential:

  • Flexibility on academic and professional background: you may come from a health and safety generalist route or a clinical/medical profession.
  • One or more of the following: Clinical qualification in occupational health (e.g., nurse, physician).
  • Level 3/4 NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety desirable).
  • A relevant qualification in Occupational Hygiene.

Preferred:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body, e.g., Faculty of Occupational Hygiene, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. The successful candidate will be eligible to start on Standard (BPSS) security clearance, but you will need to obtain Security Check (SC) once in post.
