The role
As a Mechanical Technician, you’ll carry out preventative and corrective maintenance across a wide range of Aircraft Support Equipment (ASE) and Green Fleet vehicles. Your work will directly support operations at RAF Cosford and RAF Shawbury, helping to maintain mission‑critical equipment such as arrester barriers, jacks, GPU units, hydraulic rigs and racking systems.
This role offers hands‑on mechanical engineering work that directly contributes to flight safety, operational readiness and the delivery of engineering excellence across Babcock’s Aviation and Land sectors. It’s an opportunity to build your engineering capability while supporting essential RAF activity.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment (ASE and Green Fleet vehicles)
- Undertake mechanical component replacements across the ASE fleet
- Support contracted Mechanical Transport and ASE tasks to meet operational requirements
- Maintain equipment such as arrester barriers, trestles, jacks, power units, hydraulic rigs and racking
- Work collaboratively with site teams across RAF Cosford and RAF Shawbury to maintain safe and effective operations.
This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week, delivered on a 9‑day fortnight (Week 1: 5 days, Week 2: 4 days). Working hours are 08:00–17:00 Monday to Friday (45‑minute lunch), with regular expensed travel to RAF Shawbury.
Essential experience
- Heavy Goods or Light Vehicle experience (desirable)
- Strong mechanical engineering knowledge.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant subject.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
