The role:

As a Mechanical Designer, you’ll help deliver innovative engineering solutions that support the UK’s clean energy ambitions, national security, and major nuclear programmes. You’ll contribute to complex, high‑impact design projects throughout the full design lifecycle — from concept development to final in‑service support. It’s a role where your technical expertise, creativity and problem‑solving will directly influence project success, while supporting your professional growth in one of the most advanced engineering environments in the UK.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Produce high‑quality engineering drawings throughout the design lifecycle in line with ISO standards.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, production and project teams to ensure alignment and design integrity.
  • Maintain design and project documentation, including updates to "as‑built" and datum packs.
  • Support design reviews, resolve technical queries, and contribute to innovative engineering solutions.
  • Assist senior designers with estimates, continuous improvement initiatives and project support tasks.

This is a full‑time role working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, based at Warrington or Preston, with flexible working arrangements available.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Designer:

  • Understanding of general engineering drawing practice.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on accuracy and detail.

Qualifications for the Mechanical Designer:

  • ONC / HNC / HND or BTEC National Certificate / Diploma (or equivalent), or a relevant engineering apprenticeship in mechanical or design disciplines.
