The role

As a Vehicle Mechanic, you’ll be part of a team that keeps military vehicles mission-ready. From diagnosing faults to repairing and inspecting a range of mechanical and electrical systems, your work will directly support the UK’s defence capability. It’s a hands-on role where your technical skills will grow, and your impact will be felt across operations.

Day-to-day you’ll be

  • Diagnosing faults and repairing military and occasional civilian vehicles
  • Undertaking road testing and inspections to ensure operational readiness
  • Completing documentation and test certificates to required standards
  • Using tools and equipment safely and effectively (all provided)
  • Managing parts and reporting any faults or unused items

This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time. All tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment provided.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Leuchars. Typically working Monday – Thursday 8 hours per day and 5 hours on Friday. No Mandatory overtime, nightshift or weekend work.

Essential experience of the Vehicle Mechanic

  • Experience working with HGVs
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Confident using computers for workflow and reporting

Qualifications for the Vehicle Mechanic

  • Educated to Level 3 in Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) National Vocational Qualification (NVQ/SVQ) in Motor Mechanics (Light or Heavy) or EAL Level 3 NVQ or SVQ Extended
