The role
As a Trainee Survival Equipment Technician, you\’ll have a role that\’s out of the ordinary. Our Trainee Survival Equipment Technician programme will equip you with the essential skills and experience to build a successful career working in the aerospace industry. A career path formally reserved for military personnel.
Day-to-day, over the programme, you will receive an initial 1-week theoretical course and 3-week practical training course at RAF Shawbury before returning to your parent unit to complete the second phase of your training via On-the-Job Training (OJT) and practical experience on site. Including but not limited to:
- Introduction to the Defence Engineering Air Environment
- Basic Electrical Hand Skills
- Basic Mechanical Hand Skills
- Survival Equipment and Aircrew Equipment Assemblies
- Further on the job training
Essential experience of the Trainee Survival Equipment Technician:
- A genuine interest in general engineering and aviation.
- Demonstrates an active two-way engagement within a role or educational setting,
- An element of customers and stakeholders experience including people within the organisation.
Qualifications for the Trainee Survival Equipment Technician:

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain UK – Enhanced DBS and Child Barring Service (EDBSCBL) security clearance for this role.
