Overall Department Direction

Radioactive Waste Management is responsible for the safe management of radiologically implicated waste across Devonport Royal Dockyard. The RWM infrastructure requires extensive upgrades to meet the future demand of the submarine programme, with a recent commitment to capex investment being secured.

Main Purpose of Role

The Facility Upgrade Programme Manager role will be pivotal to the success of the RWM facility upgrade strategy. The overall aim of the role is to integrate the facility upgrade projects whilst maintaining operations and maintenance of the facility. You will oversee multiple workstreams managing schedules, risk and dependencies with stakeholder communication being central to success. You will facilitate regular updates reporting internally and externally on RWM facility upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Create, own, implement and manage a facility upgrade process.
  • Create and deliver an integrated facility upgrade programme, utilising project controls/management fundamentals including schedule management, risk management, change management, stakeholder management and resource management.
  • Have a collaborative mindset with the ability to listen, handle conflict constructively and bring a positive, open-minded attitude to the team.
  • Possess the ability to prioritise critical tasks, have a ‘can do’ attitude, taking the initiative to solve problems, identify risks early, and handle complex, shifting environments.
  • Ensure detailed planning and delivery of facility upgrades on time and on budget, mitigating risks and ensure synergy across the programme whilst minimising disruption to RWM operations and maintenance.
  • Interface closely with RWM plant management and the RWM project team to ensure the facility upgrade process links seamlessly with the annual plan.
  • Work closely with the RWM plant management to create a program which focuses on closing out Change Requests (CR’s) minimising disruption to RWM operations and maintenance.
  • Report outcomes of delivery planning to the Head of Radioactive Waste, RWM programme Integration Manager, RWM Plant Manager and Nuclear Operations Maintenance Manager.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential Experience

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Relevant and extensive experience in project management and project controls (schedule, risk, change, stakeholder management etc).
  • Experience of working within a nuclear facility – Desirable.
  • Experience of working with the change request (CR) process – Desirable.

Qualifications

  • Level 5 qualification in Engineering – Desirable.
  • NVQ Level 4 in Engineering or demonstrable experience.
  • APM Project Risk Management Level 1 - Desirable.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) Security clearance for this role.
