The role:
As an Airfield Operations Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting the safe and effective operation of Middle Wallop Aerodrome. Working as part of a dedicated aviation team, you'll help maintain a safe operating environment for military and civilian airfield activities, supporting everything from airfield inspections and wildlife management to infrastructure checks and operational support. This is a hands-on, outdoor role where no two days are the same. You'll have the opportunity to develop specialist airfield knowledge, receive training, and contribute directly to aviation safety within a unique defence environment.
Day-to-day, you will be:
- Conducting airfield escort duties across the aerodrome.
- Carrying out Foreign Object Debris (FOD) inspections, sweeping, collection and disposal activities.
- Supporting wildlife hazard management activities using non-lethal control methods.
- Inspecting airfield infrastructure and grounds, reporting faults and safety concerns.
- Maintaining airfield vehicles and equipment, including cleaning, refuelling and documentation.
This role is full time working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00. Occasional weekend working may be required.
Essential experience:
- Experience working within airfield or aerodrome operations.
- Understanding of airfield safety procedures and reporting requirements.
- Experience using operational vehicles or specialist equipment in a safety-critical environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- Full UK Category B Driving Licence with a minimum of one year's driving experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Airfield Access Permit.
- No colour perception issues.
- Wildlife control experience would be advantageous.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) / Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
