The role
As Communications Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting Babcock’s Marine sector—helping to tell the story of complex defence and commercial marine programmes across the United Kingdom and internationally. You’ll work at the heart of our global communications function, shaping how we engage with colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
Day‑to‑day, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and delivering strategic internal and external communication plans aligned to Marine sector priorities
- Creating clear, engaging content and messaging for a range of audiences across multiple channels
- Managing media relations, stakeholder engagement and local communications activity
- Supporting crisis communications, issues management and campaign delivery
- Monitoring communication effectiveness and continuously improving channels and approaches
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and provides hybrid working arrangements with two/three days in the office.
Essential Experience of the Communications Manager
- Demonstrable experience in a communications or public relations role within a large, complex organisation
- Strong experience working with media and external stakeholders
- Proven understanding of internal communications and its role in supporting business objectives and change
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences
- Experience translating complex information into clear and engaging content
Qualifications for the Communications Manager
- A corporate communications or public relations qualification
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
