The role
As a Response Driver Trainer, you will combine classroom instruction with practical, on road assessment, providing clear feedback, professional judgement and structured development plans. Alongside developing others, this role offers continued personal growth through nationally recognised qualifications and the opportunity to shape best practice within emergency services training.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities
- Deliver classroom based and practical emergency response driving training
- Observe and assess learner driving performance under emergency conditions
- Provide constructive feedback and agree appropriate improvement plans
- Ensure training is delivered safely, in line with risk assessments and policies
- Maintain accurate training, assessment and compliance records
The role is full time, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and is based onsite at either Ruislip or Beckton, with regular travel to other London Fire Brigade sites across London.
Essential experience
- Experience as an emergency response driver within UK Police, Fire or Ambulance Services
- Strong working knowledge of Roadcraft principles and emergency response driving
- Experience assessing driving competence in operational or training environments
- Ability to communicate clearly, calmly and confidently in high pressure situations
- Confidence managing learner welfare, safety and performance concerns
Qualifications
- DVSA Approved Driving Instructor qualification, Grade A or B
- DVSA Category C Large Goods Vehicle licence, held for a significant number of years
- Assessor qualification, or willingness to work towards one
- Completion of National Fire Chiefs Council Emergency Response Driving portfolio is desirable

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
