The role

As aProgramme Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You\’ll play a vital role in delivering safe, world-class infrastructure support for the UK’s fleet of Royal Navy Nuclear Submarines, Warships, and decommissioning programmes – driving maritime excellence at the core of national security.

Day-to-day, you’ll take a hands-on, leadership role, driving infrastructure programme delivery through a skilled project team. You’ll collaborate across engineering, production, and operations to meet evolving customer demands—strengthening national defence through world-class infrastructure. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading cross-functional teams to deliver infrastructure programmes on time, within scope, and to exacting standards.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships to align priorities and ensure programme success across defence operations.
  • Establishing robust governance frameworks with clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability.
  • Championing continuous improvement through team development, innovation, and streamlined processes.

This role is full time 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Programme Manager

  • Senior Project Manager with proven expertise in infrastructure upgrades and nuclear site programmes.
  • Delivered complex, multi-disciplinary projects across varied services, products, and lifecycle stages.
  • Proficient in programme management tools to drive impactful outcomes and mitigate risks.
  • Trusted stakeholder manager with a strong track record of building strategic, high-value relationships.

Qualifications for the Programme Manager

  • Chartered or actively pursuing Chartership in Engineering, Programme Management, or a relevant technical discipline.
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Business, or Project Management.
  • APM PMQ or equivalent project management certification.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
