The role: As a Nuclear Mechanical Trainer, you’ll play a vital role in developing, supporting, and empowering the mechanical engineers who help maintain the UK’s submarine capability. It’s an opportunity to use your technical expertise to shape the workforce that delivers one of the nation’s most critical defence outputs. Full‑time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday with hybrid working arrangements and regular overtime opportunities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging mechanical training and assessments to engineering personnel.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, plans and competency frameworks.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and problem‑solving expertise to the Nuclear Repair Section.
  • Promote and uphold a strong nuclear safety culture across all mechanical activities.
  • Review and produce mechanical work instructions, job packs and technical procedures.

Essential experience:

  • Strong background in mechanical maintenance within nuclear, marine, defence or high‑integrity engineering environments.
  • Experience delivering technical training, mentoring or coaching to engineering personnel.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues and support engineering teams.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical safety requirements, including risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a regulated environment.

Qualifications:

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent trade‑based training.
  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline – desirable.
  • Assessor qualification (e.g., A1, TAQA) or willingness to work towards it – desirable.
  • Experience on nuclear‑licensed sites or familiarity with submarine mechanical systems – desirable.

Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
