The role

As a Mechanical Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll maintain and support specialist mechanical systems throughout their life, providing trusted technical expertise that ensures reliable deployment, recovery and ongoing availability of critical equipment. This is a hands‑on, technically rewarding role where your work directly supports operational readiness, safety and national security.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance to keep systems available, compliant and performing at their best.
  • Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical and pressure‑related system defects, including modifications and alterations.
  • Maintaining oxygen systems, hyperbaric chambers and associated air pressure equipment, both in‑situ and in workshop environments.
  • Ensuring work is completed in line with procedures, standards and specifications using safe systems of work.
  • Reviewing and controlling quality documentation at the start and throughout each task or activity.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Specialist

  • Proven experience maintaining, diagnosing and repairing air pressure–related mechanical systems.
  • Practical knowledge of oxygen systems and hyperbaric chambers.
  • Experience working within robust safe systems of work.
  • Background operating in quality‑assured, regulated engineering environments.

Qualifications for the Mechanical Specialist

  • Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or higher).

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
