Role Overview

As a Vehicle Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing military vehicles and essential training equipment that directly support defence capability. This is a hands‑on position where your expertise ensures vehicles are safe, reliable and ready for use, helping to deliver critical training and operational readiness across the armed forces.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on wheeled and tracked military vehicles
  • Diagnose faults using technical manuals and diagnostic systems
  • Complete job documentation accurately to ensure compliance and traceability
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment and training aids to required standards
  • Support team activities while ensuring all work meets health, safety and MOD requirements

The role is based onsite at MOD Lyneham, and the set working times are Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week, with the opportunity to work this across a four day working week.

Essential Experience:

  • Using diagnostic equipment, laptops and IT systems in an engineering environment
  • Demonstrate strong fault finding and problem solving skills
  • Work within a team to deliver high quality engineering outputs to deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues

Qualifications:

  • Recognised qualification in Automotive Engineering, such as Level 3 IMI, City and Guilds, BTEC or NVQ, or equivalent experience from the armed forces as a vehicle mechanic or technician
  • Hold a diagnostic technician qualification or have proven diagnostic experience
  • Full UK driving licence (Category B)

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
