The role
As an Engineering Manager – Defence, you’ll lead and inspire a highly skilled engineering team, providing technical authority, direction and assurance across complex, safety‑critical programmes. This senior leadership role shapes engineering outcomes, protects product integrity and upholds the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities:
- Lead the technical delivery of engineering scope, ensuring work is robust, safe and compliant with all standards.
- Manage and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams, setting direction and enabling high performance.
- Own design and maintenance baselines, change control and engineering governance.
- Assure product quality, safety and regulatory compliance across all engineering activities.
- Control engineering costs, risks and technical outcomes in line with programme objectives.
Essential experience:
- Operating as a senior professional engineer with proven engineering management experience.
- Working within highly regulated environments requiring safety justification.
- Making sound technical decisions and providing authoritative engineering leadership.
- Leading teams delivering complex engineering solutions.
- Applying structured engineering delivery and assurance processes.
Qualifications:
- Professional membership with chartered status.
- Security clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain a Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
