The role:
As a Principal Piping Stress Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will lead the stress analysis and integrity of complex piping systems that sit at the heart of a nationally critical programme — including new fuel conversion capability being delivered at the Springfields site in Preston.
Cavendish Nuclear is powering one of the UK’s most strategically important nuclear programmes, partnering with Springfield Fuels Limited to deliver a brand‑new, cutting‑edge facility at the Springfields site in Preston that will convert Reprocessed Uranium into UF6 at a scale of 2,500 tonnes per year. This nationally critical project, featuring a new RepU conversion plant, a Fluorine Production Plant and modern support facilities, is set to be operational by 2031, and we’re building a major multidisciplinary team to make it happen.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities:
- Lead the piping stress analysis design basis, critical line list and support specifications for complex process and power systems.
- Perform piping stress analysis and pressure vessel assessments using Hexagon Caesar II and PV Elite, including static/dynamic flexibility studies.
- Select and qualify pipe supports, and conduct vibration studies to identify sources and mitigate risks to safety, reliability and performance.
- Review and approve vendor drawings, data sheets and analysis, acting as an intelligent customer and ensuring quality assurance and quality control standards.
- Collaborate with piping engineers, designers, vendors and client counterparts, undertaking site visits and coordinating interfaces across disciplines.
This is a permanent, full‑time role working 37 hours per week based in Warrington (Cheshire) or Humberside (East Yorkshire).
Essential experience:
- Demonstrable proficiency with Hexagon Caesar II for piping stress analysis.
- Demonstrable proficiency with Hexagon PV Elite for pressure vessel analysis.
- Applied experience with ASME B31.1 (Power Piping) and ASME B31.3 (Process Piping), and familiarity with BS EN 13480 for metallic industrial piping.
