Safety Case Engineer - Propulsion in Helensburgh

The role

As a Safety Case Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the UK’s most complex and safety-critical engineering programmes. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring high-hazard activities can be carried out safely, helping to identify, assess and reduce risk while supporting the continued operation of vital defence infrastructure. Day-to-day, you’ll develop robust safety justifications that enable critical operations and ensure regulatory compliance. This is a unique opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to challenging technical problems while developing your career within a globally recognised defence and engineering organisation. Your work will directly contribute to the safe delivery of defence capability that helps keep the nation secure.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and maintaining safety cases and safety justification documentation to support nuclear and high-hazard operations.
• Assessing risks and demonstrating that risks have been reduced to As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
• Producing technical reports and safety documentation that support operational and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborating with engineering teams, stakeholders and subject matter experts across the business.
• Supporting site-wide Periodic Safety Review programmes and providing independent technical assessments when required.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Safety Case Engineer:

• Authoring and reviewing technical reports and safety documentation.
• Explaining complex technical issues to a range of audiences and stakeholders.
• Engaging effectively with stakeholders across large organisations and project teams.
• Demonstrating strong presentation, communication and technical writing skills.
• Applying fundamental safety case methodologies within engineering, defence, nuclear or other highly regulated environments.

Qualifications for the Safety Case Engineer:

• Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma in Engineering, or a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics degree.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards registration.
• Additional qualifications or training in safety engineering, risk management or safety case development.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
