The role
As Head of Security, you’ll lead the protection of critical defence infrastructure, ensuring compliance with evolving legislation, and enabling the safe and secure delivery of operations vital to national security.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead the modernization of Babcock Devonport’s aging infrastructure, overseeing long-term security upgrades such as fencing, surveillance systems, and physical safeguards. You’ll work closely with internal teams, customers like the Ministry of Defence and the Naval Base Commander, and suppliers such as Rolls Royce to align security objectives with operational goals.
Additionally, you’ll collaborate with senior stakeholders within Babcock, including the Managing Director and Site Director, to ensure alignment with corporate priorities. You’ll manage budgets effectively, ensuring the efficient use of resources to achieve security outcomes while meeting profitability targets. You will also:
- Lead the consolidated Security team to maintain and improve the management of security delivery during normal operations, incidents and emergencies.
- Develop and undertake procedures for inspection, maintenance and testing of the security system.
This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) with hybrid working arrangements. While onsite work is required, there will be opportunities for remote work based on business needs.
Essential experience of the Head of Security
- Experience as a security manager or in a similar role, with a strong background in security risk analysis and management.
- Proven leadership experience, successfully managing large teams and delivering complex operational services within a highly regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of financial management, including managing budgets and overseeing profit and loss.
- Excellent senior stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications for the Head of Security
- Ideally, a member of a professional body such as the Register of Chartered Security Professionals or the Security Institute.
- Desirable: Certified Nuclear Security Professional with WINS certification.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a UK Sole National and able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
