Lead the Training That Protects a Nuclear Site

The role
As a Firefighter Trainer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a vital role in strengthening the capability, readiness and professionalism of the Incident Response Team. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver specialised fire safety, security and incident response training that directly contributes to protecting a highly regulated nuclear site. You will make a meaningful difference to national safety while developing your own expertise in a unique operational environment.
Day to day you’ll be required to:
- Deliver engaging fire safety, security and medical training to the Incident Response Team and customer groups
- Support the development and continuous improvement of training programmes to ensure quality and regulatory compliance
- Assess team readiness, evaluate training performance and contribute to post event debriefs
- Maintain accurate training records and prepare all required materials
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to align training with operational needs
The starting salary for this role is £38,641.05, increasing to £41,193 upon successful completion of training to achieve the required skill level, passing probation and obtaining SC vetting. This role is full time, 42 hours per week and is based on site at Capenhurst. The working hours cover 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required around start and finish times to ensure we meet the customers’ demands. Standard hours of work are 08:00 to 16:30, however timings may change to facilitate training during Site silent hours.
Essential experience of the Firefighter Trainer:
- Background in incident response, emergency response, operational fire experience, security operations or a similar high‑risk operational setting.
- Experience working within regulated environments where compliance, standards and assurance are critical.
Qualifications for the Firefighter Trainer:
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent or a commitment to achieve this within the first 12 months.
- Security Industry Authority (SIA) accreditation (or willingness to obtain).
- Level 3 medical qualification or be prepared to work towards this.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
