The role

As a Financial Accountant, you’ll join our Central Accounting team within Finance Business Services, supporting the wider UK Babcock business at a time of transformation and growth. This 12‑month fixed‑term contract offers the opportunity to take real ownership, influence how finance operates at scale, and strengthen financial controls that underpin critical national and international programmes. It’s a role that offers visibility, impact, and the chance to develop your technical expertise within a complex, dynamic organisation – positioning you strongly for future career progression within finance and beyond.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll play a key role in shaping and embedding standardised processes, supporting system integrations, and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting:

  • Supporting month‑end processes, including journals, timetables, and balance sheet activities
  • Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and presentations for large UK entities
  • Maintaining strong financial controls and supporting audit and compliance requirements
  • Contributing to finance process standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across finance to support SAP integration and business change

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home. There will be once a month travel (team meetings) although might be more when first starting role.

Essential experience:

  • Hands‑on experience within a finance function, ideally in a complex or multi‑entity environment
  • Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Ability to review, challenge and assess balance sheet integrity and recoverability
  • High level of competency using Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience using finance systems, with exposure to SAP considered advantageous

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA or CIMA), or qualified by experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
