The role

As a Production Capability Lead, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a critical part in shaping the industrial capability that underpins major defence, aerospace and engineering programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to directly influence the future of our production workforce - ensuring we have the right people, with the right skills, at the right time to deliver projects that are vital to national security.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

  • Lead capability planning by overseeing the deployment, development and progression of the industrial workforce.
  • Coordinate workforce supply and demand using Integrated Business Plan insights and programme requirements.
  • Manage the competency framework, ensuring all workers remain Suitably Qualified and Experienced.
  • Engage with trade forums, mentors and training providers to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support early careers pathways — apprentices, trainees and Production Support Operatives (PSOs) — ensuring training, mentoring and progression align to future business requirements.
  • Oversee skills gap analysis and shape upskilling and training strategies across the site.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements – 1 day working from home.

Essential experience:

  • Extensive Knowledge of operations in an engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering processes, standards and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing teams or leading capability initiatives.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confident use of digital tools, including Microsoft applications.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant vocational, technical or professional background that demonstrates deep understanding of engineering workforce requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of trade skills and interactions with engineering stakeholders such as engineering, quality etc.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
