The role
As a Commissioning Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that mission systems across new ship design, build programmes, refits, and export variants are fully tested, validated, and ready to perform. This is an exciting chance to work at the heart of defence engineering—where innovation, problem‑solving, and precision come together to shape safe and secure maritime capability. You’ll grow your technical expertise, develop leadership capability, and build strong relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal specialists. This is a role where your skill and curiosity will directly influence major engineering outcomes and support the long‑term safety and performance of critical national assets.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Support mission systems OEMs, ensuring systems are prepared for installation inspection and service enablement.
- Coordinate commissioning and build activities to resolve conflicts and optimise project schedules.
- Monitor and record commissioning progress, test results, witness final testing and equipment acceptance.
- Ensure documentation meets Quality Assurance and configuration control standards.
- Coach and mentor junior commissioning engineers, guiding their development and reviewing work.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the Commissioning Engineer – Mission systems:
- Experience in maintaining and commissioning ship warfare, weapons, or communications systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational capability.
- Experience developing and maintaining test documentation and analysing results.
- Experience writing safety documentation (risk assessments, method statements, procedures).
- Ability to collaborate with subcontractors and ensure safe systems of work.
Qualifications for the Commissioning Engineer – Mission systems:
- HNC/HND in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
- Membership of a recognised professional engineering institution.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
