The role involves leading commercial activities in relation to our Major Nuclear Capital Projects business (MNCP), supporting the design, construction, and support of major nuclear infrastructure programmes, predominantly at our operations at Devonport and Clyde. You will be responsible for leading and developing a commercial centre of excellence providing strategic and operational commercial support to the business across the portfolio of Infrastructure contracts we have with our principal customer, the UK Ministry of Defence.

  • Provide strategic leadership for the MNCP Commercial function, advising the Nuclear Sector Executive Committee on all related matters.
  • Drive innovation and compliance by leading negotiations with MOD and managing supply chain agreements in line with Babcock policies.
  • Establish and enforce best practice commercial policies and processes, ensuring alignment with Babcock Group standards and Single Source Contract Regulations (SSCR).
  • Represent Babcock in professional forums, boards, and committees, fostering industry collaboration.
  • Lead and inspire a large team of Commercial and Quantity Surveyor professionals, ensuring effective customer and supply chain support with comprehensive risk management.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with regular travel to between our sites in Plymouth and Bristol.

Essential experience:

  • Extensive senior-level commercial experience in the construction and infrastructure sector, with a background advising organisations comparable to Babcock.
  • Proven experience working with government and navigating regulated environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC4 contracting approaches and CDM regulations.
  • Strong leadership track record, managing large teams of commercial and quantity surveying professionals.
  • Expertise in negotiation and influencing within complex contractual frameworks, including familiarity with SSCR.

Qualifications:

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) and have demonstrated further professional development in the Construction and Infrastructure market.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
