The role involves shaping and strengthening the Royal Navy’s Submarine Fleet by leading critical technical activity within our Structures team. This role offers significant career development, working closely with our MoD customer and collaborating with industry-leading subject matter experts. You’ll tackle major structural challenges where your judgement, insight and analysis have a direct and visible impact.
Day-to-day, you’ll support our Subject Matter Experts providing technical support to our key customers and across the wider business. You’ll take ownership of directing technical outputs, coordinating activity, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. Your work will span a diverse range of projects on complex assets with excellent opportunities to learn, grow and continue your professional development.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the delivery of high-quality structural engineering outputs across multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Performing structural assessment using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis to support safe operation and design decisions.
- Designing and assessing solutions for explosive shock survivability and other demanding operating conditions.
- Conducting platform surveys, validation activities and structural defect management to inform repairs, upgrades and assurance.
- Driving technical investigations, feasibility studies, trials, testing and capability upgrades for current and future submarine platforms.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience:
- Proven experience in structural analysis and design within marine, aviation, mechanical or civil engineering.
- Strong project delivery skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise and perform in a complex environment.
- Confident communication and relationship-building skills, including with customers and senior stakeholders.
- The ability to influence positively and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Sound engineering judgement, with a safety-first mindset and attention to detail.
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Achieved (or able to demonstrate competencies for) Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status with the United Kingdom Engineering Council, with full membership of a relevant engineering institute.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
