As an Engineering Manager, you’ll play a pivotal leadership role on a high‑profile submarine programme, delivering complex payload handling and launch systems that are critical to national security. This is an opportunity to lead from the front, shaping engineering strategy, guiding multi‑disciplinary teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative, safety‑critical solutions. Working at the heart of our Mission Systems business, you’ll influence the full engineering lifecycle, drive continuous improvement, and make a tangible contribution to programmes that protect and serve. Day‑to‑day, you’ll be responsible for:
- Ensuring technical outcomes are delivered compliant with contractual requirements, regulation/legislation and standards, whilst ensuring adherence to cost/schedule forecast.
- Planning and engineering scope to execute lifecycle engineering activities.
- Risk management and managing the identification, capture, triage, communication, and resolution of project technical issues.
- Ensuring that product safety and security is proactively managed regardless of customer requirement.
- Product quality, ensuring the engineering team works as one team to achieve delivery of the project/programme.
- Reporting and metrics: track and report on engineering metrics in support of project status and KPIs.
- Continuous improvement: identify opportunities for process and product improvements and drive initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of engineering delivery.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home.
Essential experience:
- Extensive engineering management and solution design and delivery experience across the engineering lifecycle.
- Significant experience leading and managing multi‑disciplinary technical teams and programmes.
- Demonstrable experience of project delivery on large and/or complex engineering projects, preferably in aerospace, defence or adjacent industries.
- Experience of implementing and executing engineering and business processes and improvements.
- Demonstration of financial and commercial awareness, management of engineering cost and risk.
Qualifications:
- Mechanical or Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree; a master’s degree level would be beneficial.
- Chartered Engineer at a relevant institution, or in a position to apply for chartership upon appointment.
Security clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Must be sole UK National.
