The Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Configuration Engineer to join our dynamic team at Babcock Mission Systems. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the management configuration processes, documents and overall management for within a project/programme for our mission‑critical systems and projects. Requires in-depth knowledge and experience to solve complex problems with minimal guidance. You’ll be supporting from the design phase, and progress this to ensure that configuration is managed effectively throughout the product lifecycle for the multiple different configurations that will exist through the in‑service phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the configuration management processes for our mission‑critical systems and projects.
- Develop, implement, and maintain configuration management plans, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure the integrity and consistency of configuration data throughout the engineering/project lifecycle.
- Oversee the configuration status accounting and reporting processes.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to configuration management throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Define, manage and run configuration control boards (CCBs) and facilitate configuration audits and reviews.
- Coordinate with all engineering disciplines, quality assurance, and project management teams to ensure compliance with configuration management standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the configuration management for the overall engineering function.
- Provide guidance and training to team members on configuration management best practices.
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role. This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is adaptable and can be delivered from various locations including Tewksbury, Plymouth and wider Bristol as well as working from home arrangements.
Essential Experience
- Strong knowledge of configuration management standards and practices (e.g., Def Stan 05‑57, ISO 10007, CMMI).
- Significant years of experience in configuration management, preferably within the defence industry.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced and collaborative environment.
- Proficiency in configuration management tools and software with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Qualifications
- Certification in Configuration Management (e.g., CMII, CMPIC) is a plus.
- Formal qualifications in Engineering (min level 5) such as HNC/HND or equivalent experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
