The role
As a Motor Vehicle Skills Assessor, you’ll step away from the tools and into a career that shapes the next generation of Army vehicle mechanics. You’ll use your hands‑on expertise to coach, guide and assess learners working across the British Army’s extensive fleet from quad bikes and generators to battle tanks and heavy artillery. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on national defence while advancing your own career in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
Day‑to‑day you’ll be:
- Visiting learners in their workplace to deliver coaching, assessment and support
- Motivating and guiding apprentices through their qualification journey
- Monitoring progress and ensuring timely completion of all programme components
- Advising learners on portfolio building and meeting programme requirements
- Recording and tracking learner progress in line with reporting processes
Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.
The role is based remotely, with travel required to sites across the Southwest including but not limited to Tidworth, Lyneham, Warminster, Colerne, Larkhill, Bulford and Wiltshire. The set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 37 hours per week.
Essential experience of the Motor Vehicle Skills Assessor:
- Considerable experience as a qualified assessor
- Strong background in a relevant industry environment
- Good understanding of work‑based learning programmes
Qualifications for the Motor Vehicle Skills Assessor:
- Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent)
- GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Vehicle Mechanic Level 3 Qualification (minimum Level 3)
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC), Enhanced DBS, Child Barring Service and Adult Barring Service security clearance for this role.
