The role
As a Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for all non-nuclear safety implicated Electrical Design requests relating to our infrastructure at our Faslane site.

Day-to-day, you’ll ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining the design intent of all systems to ensure they are safe to operate from a design perspective whilst optimising our client’s investment.

  • Act as Technical Authority for Electrical Services at HMNB Clyde, representing Babcock Marine in all relevant technical and organisational meetings, and overseeing activities such as maintenance validation, design concessions, EMIT reviews, FEED, and risk management.
  • Survey and inspect assets across HMNB Clyde, applying MoD Defence Estates asset grading standards to ensure infrastructure integrity and compliance.
  • Champion safety, security, quality, and environmental standards within the Facility Design section, ensuring risk assessments are conducted and safe working practices are maintained.
  • Deliver electrical and building services designs for projects under £25k, and lead specification, review, and approval of third-party designs for larger projects, reporting to the TCA for final endorsement.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week worked Monday to Thursday and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Electrical Design Engineer

  • Demonstrable experience within an Electrical Design role.
  • Experience of Electrical Systems and Equipment within large commercial site operations
  • Highly beneficial experience to understand statutory and regulatory requirements such as DSEAR.
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Drawings and Electrical Calculations.

Qualifications for the Electrical Design Engineer

  • Recognised Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 18th Edition City and Guilds
  • City and Guilds 2395 Periodic Inspection Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
