The role:

  • As an Electrical Designer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a highly impactful role offering visible outcomes and real career progression.
  • Day-to-day, you’ll apply your engineering modelling and design expertise to support the integration of electrical systems on submarines and surface ships.
  • You’ll work across hardware and software requirements, ensuring compliance with defence standards and contributing to the operational readiness of the Royal Navy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating and developing 2D and 3D drawings and models for system integration
  • Designing installation methods for new ship fits, ensuring manufacturability and compliance
  • Participating in onboard surveys and validation exercises
  • Supporting the production of technical documentation, including design and safety materials
  • Collaborating with MOD, ship staff, and installation contractors

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Electrical Designer:

  • Experience in a regulated electrical engineering environment
  • Knowledge of electrical systems installation and legislation
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D AutoCAD software
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to quality
  • Proven reliability and productivity in engineering delivery

Qualifications for the Electrical Designer:

  • ONC with appropriate apprenticeship or equivalent experience

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC security clearance for this role.
