The role

As a Business Improvement Manager, you will have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Based in a nuclear submarine facility, you will have the opportunity to lead transformative improvements across the business in the years ahead.

Day-to-day, you’ll lead and support Business Improvement Specialists within operations by coaching and enabling teams to identify, scope, plan, and deliver improvement projects. Additionally, you will:

  • Manage and support stakeholders related to their project activities.
  • Deliver projects through the project lifecycle eg. Concept, Definition, Deployment and Transition.
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
  • Proactively monitor progress, including recording, resolving, and escalating associated issues and risks.
  • Plan and design the transformation/ business improvement activities aligned to a governance framework.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Business Improvement Manager

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Project Management and Risk Management techniques (e.g. APM)
  • Experience using project management tools (e.g. MS Project, Project Web App)
  • Solid conceptual and hands-on knowledge of business improvement processes
  • Familiarity with Process Improvement techniques (e.g. Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement)

Qualifications for the Business Improvement Manager

  • Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or equivalent — or extensive relevant experience
  • APM Project Management Qualification or demonstrable project experience
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred (not essential)
  • ILM Level 3 or equivalent qualification — or proven leadership experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
