As a Maintenance Technician, you will join a highly skilled and hands-on technical team responsible for maintaining, repairing and preparing specialist fire-training buildings, rigs, breathing apparatus equipment and operational training environments. This work ensures crews can train safely and effectively, 365 days a year. It is a uniquely practical and varied role where no two days look the same – and where your work directly supports public safety training.

  • Carry out hands-on maintenance, repairs and decorating to keep training buildings and facilities safe, clean and operational.
  • Prepare, maintain and inspect fire-training equipment, breathing apparatus, rigs and training areas to ensure operational readiness.
  • Complete routine checks, planned maintenance tasks, defect logging and updates through the planned maintenance system.
  • Maintain safety and compliance by working to SOPs, HS&E standards, risk assessments and ISO documentation requirements.
  • Support wider site operations including vehicle movements (LGV/forklift), stock management, and maintaining tidy, functional facilities.

This is a full-time onsite role, working 37 hours, 4 days on and 4 days off rota across an 8-day period, including weekends, from 07:00 to 17:30.

Requirements:

  • Practical maintenance experience, including repairs, equipment care, decorating and facility upkeep.
  • Understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental safe systems of work, including SOPs and compliance processes.
  • Ability to work in a physically active environment, carrying out manual tasks safely.
  • IT literacy, including use of maintenance systems and Microsoft Office for reporting.
  • Experience handling or maintaining specialist or safety-critical equipment (e.g., BA equipment) is desirable.

We value difference and do not have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you. The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.

What we offer:

  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Matched contribution pension scheme, with life assurance.
  • Access to a Digital GP, annual health check, and nutritional consultations through Aviva DigiCare+.
  • Employee shopping savings portal.
  • Payment of Professional Fees.
  • Reservists in the armed forces receive 10-days special paid leave.
  • Holiday Trading allows UK Babcock employees to buy additional leave or sell up to one working week of annual leave from their annual entitlement.
