Lead the engineering delivery of major defence infrastructure and shape the future of UK maritime capability.

The role involves managing the technical delivery of complex engineering projects within Babcock's Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) business unit. This work plays a crucial role in enabling the next generation of ship and submarine programmes, including the design, build and commissioning of critical facilities that support the Royal Navy's most advanced fleets.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the Technical Authority and single point of contact, leading engineering definition from initial concept through to final handover.
  • Influencing major capital projects and engaging with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Building expertise in both conventional and nuclear-regulated environments.
  • Managing the technical delivery of engineering projects throughout the full lifecycle.
  • Supporting the Design Management Group in developing and delivering complex design solutions for safety-critical facilities.
  • Ensuring all design outputs are fit for purpose and delivered within agreed schedule and cost parameters.
  • Applying structured design processes proportionately across both conventional and nuclear facilities.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days in the office/onsite.

Essential experience:

  • Strong technical background with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Minimum of four years' experience in an engineering, construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Understanding of the engineering design lifecycle and a logical, structured approach to problem solving.
  • Experience developing and substantiating solutions for safety critical applications, ideally in a regulated industry.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure or large scale building projects.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a STEM discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or clear evidence of actively working towards registration with a professional institution.
  • Additional training or certification in project delivery, engineering management or safety-related disciplines - Desirable.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
