The role:

As a Security Access Controller, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a key role in safeguarding one of the UK's most secure sites. You’ll manage access to the dockyard, ensuring that only authorised personnel and visitors are granted entry – helping to protect critical infrastructure and operations. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in security and administration, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders in a dynamic, high‑security environment. You’ll build essential skills in compliance, communication, and operational coordination while contributing to something bigger.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:

  • Manage access to secure areas, ensuring all entry processes meet strict security protocols
  • Operate access control systems, including issuing and renewing passes and ID cards
  • Conduct security checks and maintain accurate visitor and personnel records
  • Support visitors and colleagues by providing professional front‑of‑house customer service
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate site access

This is a full‑time role working 35 hours per week, based on site at Devonport.

Essential experience:

  • Experience in administration and/or customer service within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade A‑C or equivalent)
  • Completed or willingness to work towards an NVQ Level 2 in Administration
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
