The role
As a Safety Case Manager, you'll hold a pivotal position within nuclear safety governance. This is a senior, influential role where your expertise directly supports the organisation's licence to operate and ensures the highest standards of safety in a high hazard, defence-critical environment.
You will work closely with senior leaders, regulators, and customers, shaping safety strategy, guiding compliance, and leading the development and assurance of nuclear safety cases. It is an opportunity to apply deep technical knowledge, grow strategic leadership capability, and make a tangible contribution to national security while developing your own career in one of the most complex and rewarding areas of engineering.
Day-to-day, you'll be required to:
- Lead the development, assurance, and delivery of nuclear safety cases to meet regulatory and organisational requirements
- Advise senior leaders, customers, and stakeholders on nuclear safety, site licence and authorisation compliance
- Engage with regulators, the Ministry of Defence, and other external bodies to support effective permissioning and regulatory interactions
- Manage safety strategies, documentation quality, resources, and budgets within your area of responsibility
- Develop people, capability, and competence within the safety engineering function
This is a full-time role, working on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd. Core working hours are 7.30 am‑3.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 7.00 am‑12.00 pm Friday. You will be working a minimum of two days onsite.
Essential experience of the Safety Case Manager
- Proven leadership experience within safety, engineering, or a regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of nuclear safety policy, principles, and methodologies
- Demonstrable experience leading the development of nuclear safety cases
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders
Qualifications for the Safety Case Manager
- Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards chartership
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
