As an Apprenticeship Coach specialising in recovery mechanics, you'll step away from the tools and into a coaching role where you'll shape the next generation of Army vehicle recovery specialists, using your practical experience to coach, guide, and assess learners in real-world fault diagnosis, repair, and recovery operations. Day to day, you'll be required to:

  • Visit apprentices in their workplace to deliver practical coaching on recovery and mechanical tasks
  • Support learners to build skills in fault diagnosis, repair and vehicle recovery operations
  • Assess performance and recording progress against apprenticeship standards
  • Provide clear feedback, guidance and ongoing support to help learners succeed
  • Work with Army units and training teams to ensure quality, compliance and development outcomes

Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role. The role is regional, covering sites across the North of England and Scotland, with a 37 hour working week, Monday to Friday. Regular travel to Babcock and customer locations will be required, alongside flexible and home working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Recovery Mechanic:

  • Demonstrate mechanical or vehicle maintenance experience such as recovery, heavy vehicles or plant
  • Show experience in operational or technical environments, ideally within a military setting
  • Manage your own workload across multiple locations with strong organisational skills
  • Communicate effectively to coach and support learners of varying abilities
  • Apply practical knowledge to real world engineering challenges

Qualifications for the Recovery Mechanic:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C or above, or equivalent
  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in vehicle mechanics or a related discipline

Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (EDBS) security clearance for this role.
