The role
As a Principal Supportability Engineer, you’ll ensure submarine designs are supported throughout their lifecycle – making them maintainable, cost-effective and operationally ready. You’ll work closely with Design teams, applying in-service experience to influence design reviews and support solutions. This role is pivotal in enabling the UK’s Continuous at Sea Deterrent and offers exceptional scope for professional growth.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
- Act as Cost Account Manager (CAM), overseeing labour demand, spend, and risk reporting
- Champion the integration of IPS elements such as Maintenance, Training, Supply Support, and Technical Data into the product lifecycle
- Manage and coach a team of IPS Leads and specialists to develop support solutions across programme workstreams
- Contribute to business growth through lessons learned, bid activities, and capability development
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders across UK sites to ensure programme alignment
Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Principal Supportability Engineer
- Proven experience in developing Integrated Product Support (IPS) solutions
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate technical issues and propose solutions
- Experience in leading or supporting technical investigations and continuous improvement
- Ability to guide and mentor team members
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across disciplines
Qualifications for the Principal Supportability Engineer
- Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline with demonstrable experience
- Chartership or working towards chartership
