The role:
As a Configuration Management Engineering Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of maintaining the integrity of the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary Surface Ship definitions. Working within our Master Record Data Centre (MRDC) team, you’ll help ensure millions of records remain accurate and accessible, supporting national defence and maritime operations. This is a role that makes a real difference – not only to the business but to the security of the UK.
Day-to-day you’ll be required to:
- Screen and extract relevant data from technical documents, drawings, and specifications to maintain ship fit definitions in SSDD.
- Ensure all tasks comply with project procedures and quality plans, identifying improvements where possible.
- Support other Configuration Engineers and collaborate across teams.
- Undertake ship visits to support configuration audits.
- Update SSDD while considering impacts on data interfaces and schedules.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience:
- Ability to interpret technical data from drawings and documentation.
- Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- IT literacy, ideally with experience using Configuration Management tools (e.g., SSDD).

- Team-oriented with the ability to present technical data clearly.
Qualifications:
- ONC or equivalent engineering academic qualification.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
