The role involves acting as a trusted legal advisor at the heart of major nuclear and defence programmes. You'll provide expert legal support on complex, high-value contracts and strategic projects, ensuring that legal risk is effectively managed while enabling commercial success. Day-to-day, you'll have a unique opportunity to influence critical infrastructure projects that support national defence and long-term security. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders, shape key decisions and contribute to the development of the wider legal function, enhancing both your leadership and technical expertise.

  • Providing expert legal advice on complex commercial contracts and strategic projects
  • Leading contract negotiations to ensure commercially sound and compliant outcomes
  • Managing disputes, litigation and regulatory compliance activities
  • Collaborating with senior stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, risk-based solutions
  • Supporting governance processes and ensuring adherence to legal frameworks

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with occasional travel to Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in commercial contract drafting, negotiation and review
  • Proven ability to deliver strategic, risk-based legal advice to senior stakeholders
  • Experience managing disputes, litigation and regulatory compliance
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate legal complexity into business context
  • Experience working within an in-house or corporate legal environment
  • NEC contract experience

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with significant post‑qualification experience

Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
