The role

As an Electrical Controls and Mechanical Engineer, your expertise will directly contribute to national security and public safety, while advancing your career in a dynamic engineering environment. Day-to-day, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and configuring mechanical handling systems that support some of the UK’s most critical defence infrastructure. You’ll provide technical authority and design consultancy for cranes, lifting equipment, and other mechanical handling assets across our Devonport site.

  • Designing and configuring mechanical handling assets across the site.
  • Maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation.
  • Specifying replacement equipment and supporting permanent modifications.
  • Responding to technical queries and supporting fault diagnosis.
  • Preparing asset health reports and scopes of work for projects.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week, and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days in the office/onsite.

Essential experience of the Electrical Controls and Mechanical Engineer

  • Background in automation or electrical control systems.
  • Proven experience in the design and substantiation of electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering regulations, legislation, and standards.
  • Proficiency in performing calculations and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with conventional safety systems.

Qualifications for the Electrical Controls and Mechanical Engineer

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent extensive proven experience.
  • Chartered status or working towards it is advantageous.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
