As a Plater/Fabricator, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. We have opportunities for Plater/Fabricators to work on a wide range of projects. You will be at the heart of our submarine maintenance programme, working on some of the most advanced marine technology in the world. This is your chance to contribute to national defence while developing your skills in a dynamic and highly specialised environment. You will be part of a constructive production team, supporting the repair, maintenance and modification of the UK’s fleet of submarines and warships.
What you will do:
- Perform structural repairs to steel hulls and decks using burning and grinding techniques
- Fabricate and assemble plate and steelwork using specialist tools and equipment
- Translate engineering documents into fabrication plans
- Cutting, shaping and assembling steel plates and components
- Installing and joining plate, steel and structural materials
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.
There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. Whilst OWP is not guaranteed; it involves a 4-week shift cycle consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. If you would like to know more about OWP please contact the Recruitment Team.
What you will need:
- Proven experience in structural steel repair and fabrication
- Skilled in using fabrication tools and workshop machinery
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Experience in marine engineering or similar sectors (e.g. Royal Navy, RFA, commercial shipbuilding)
- Strong understanding of safety and quality standards in heavy engineering environments
- Indentured Apprenticeship or Level 2 qualification in fabrication, structural steel, or sheet metal work (Essential)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
